Iowa
Iowa, the heart of the Midwest, is a state that has been making waves in recent years. With its capital and most populous city, Des Moines, leading the way, Iowa has become a hub for those seeking to apostille their documents.

The state processes more than 200 requests for apostilles each month, making it a go-to destination for those in need of this service. But what exactly are the requirements for apostilling a document in Iowa?

What are the requirements for apostilling a document in Iowa?

The process may seem daunting, but it’s actually quite simple. If you have an original document or duplicate issued by the State, with the appropriate signature and recently issued, you’re already halfway there. The Iowa Secretary of State apostilles public and private documents if they were issued by the County Clerk, Local Registrar, or the Iowa Secretary of State. Additionally, documents that have been certified or notarized as true copies by an Iowa Notary Public can also be apostilled.

It’s worth noting that some documents are not acceptable for an apostille. Vital Records issued by the County, for example, cannot be apostilled. Marriage certificates and divorce decrees must have been certified by the County Clerk in the county where the document was recorded. For more information on obtaining copies of an original document, you can visit the Iowa Department of Public Health at https://idph.iowa.gov/health-statistics/request-record

But what if you don’t have an original document or it’s damaged, or it was issued over 10 years ago? Fear not! You can still get your document apostilled by providing a scanned photocopy of the original document.

However, you’ll need to make sure that appropriate signature is not provided, and that the destination country accepts apostilles of the scanned photocopy of the original document. In most cases, countries do accept an apostille of the scanned photocopy.

If you need the apostille within 24 hours, the notarized and apostilled scanned photocopy of the original document will be issued from New York City.

So whether you’re a resident of Iowa or just passing through, if you need to apostille your documents, Iowa is the place to be. With its efficient and reliable process, you can rest assured that your documents will be apostilled in no time.
